Suffocating started out life on Saturday 9th May 2020 and was a finished demo 3 days later. This was such an exciting writing process. Every step of the song came together so quickly and felt so good. I love the main riff. I love that it lent itself to a Drum, Bass & Vocal section, bizarrely something I’d always wanted in a song but for some reason it had just never happened and when I added the distorted vocals it just felt amazing. The Chorus just kept getting more exciting as it came together. Going into a clean section for the mid lead break felt so natural. I love the breather it gives, I love the harmonies.

Thematically, the song deals with my mental state as the pandemic continued. The constant feeling of being overwhelmed with all the thoughts of the present and the future that brought on my age old mental struggles. The songs flow, to me, mimics the cycle of mental illness.
