about

This Is Not A War started out life on Tuesday 28th April 2020.

Over lunch that day I was told of a statement that our Prime Minister had made stating ‘This is the moment of maximum risk’. I started singing that line over and over all day. I got home that night, headed straight in the studio and laid that part down. I then just carried on writing and recording, a total stream of musical consciousness. The next day, I intended on going through what I’d recorded and finding the verse, chorus etc but after listening back to it I decided it was what is was. That was the song it wanted to be. Just a journey. So after a few little tweaks and some additional vocals. That first song structure I recorded is essentially what you hear today.

Lyrically, the song continued the theme of being locked down. Starting with the ‘Maximum risk’ line the song then goes on to talk about accepting this moment in time, being dignified about it, not fighting it, realising that it is not war and that we didn’t do anything wrong. To finally wondering what’s actually going on and when will it end.

I felt the music and the lyrics defined all the changing emotions I was going through at the time

Enjoy!

lyrics

THIS IS NOT A WAR:

This is the moment of maximum risk
Lockdown

Stay Strong

Dig In / For Society / Let your life go / Show humility
Breathe Deep / Keep your focus / Be the solution / Not the problem
Take time / Let the worst pass / Try and understand / Why we’re Locked down
Just know / We will get through this / Please remember / It’s not forever

Our Time / It’s our Time / Our Time / To show the world humility

This is not a war / As we know it
We must find a cure / To destroy it
We must not forget / Why we suffer
Else we will regret

This is not a war / As we know it
This is not our fault / Don’t forget it
We are not to blame / Please Don’t suffer
We must stay the same

This is not a war

Sit tight to live your life
Stay calm til all is right
Take time to understand
Find peace

It won’t be Long / It won’t be Long Now

There is no end in sight you’re losing track of time
There is no end in sight you start to lose your mind

When will it end
So many questions all the time
When will it end
So many questions on my mind
When will it end
How Long will life be kept on hold
When will it end
Just need to know when will it end

Don’t know
We just don’t know
